"6th And Santa Fe" Makes Semi-Finals At Action Cut Film Competition

Gunny Entertainment's short version of "6th And Santa Fe" was selected as an acclaimed semi-finalist at the Action Cut Film Competition held last month in Los Angeles.

Quoting from the awarding jury:

"The Action/Cut Juries warmly congratulate all Semi-Finalists for their special work of excellence which stood out from the many hundreds of short films entered in these competitive categories re:" 6th & SANTA FE" Directed by Mike Gunther - Studio City, CA"

Guy Magar of Action Cut film explains:

"The Action/Cut Short Film Competition was launched in 2004 due to the many requests from filmmakers and graduates from our Action/Cut Seminars. They kept asking what to do with their short films as there are few fests/competitions devoted to short films, and most of those do not have substantial prize packages to help the winning filmmakers move forward with their careers...which should be the whole point of winning awards and prizes at fests. We started the Action/Cut Filmmaking Seminars five years ago, and it grew to become the most acclaimed 2-day seminar on filmmaking in the industry...we have given over 60 events in over
15 major film cities and internationally from Canada to Malaysia. Since we are an educational service for filmmakers and screenwriters, we decided to change the
short film contest landscape and create the most important and career-changing competition in the world.

We stress the importance of making shorts at the seminars, especially with the recent availability of digital cameras and home editing systems, and the importance of getting recognition/awards/prizes at film festivals and contests to launch film careers. Since Action/Cut is an industry-driven company, it became a natural extension to launch this annual competition to not only discover the next great filmmakers from around the world, but to open Hollywood career access doors for the winners and truly enable them to move forward which is what every filmmaker hopes for when they win a competition...but no others do what we do or can provide film industry access, and over 125 cash and industry awards valued at $50,000...plus promote the films by streaming them online for the world to see!"

Gunny Entertainment's Mike Gunther and Mike Behrman are thankful to the jury and look forward to the next round of festivals for "6th And Santa Fe". Interested readers may view the 2008 Action Cut Competition finalists at their website here

"6th And Santa Fe" Screening Update

For immediate release:

"6th And Santa Fe" star Will Yun Lee will be attending the June 28th screening at the PlayHouse West Film Festival it was announced today in Hollywood. Also on hand will be Gunny Entertainment partners Mike Gunther (Director/Writer) and Mike Behrman (Executive Producer/Writer) to participate in an after screening Q&A session following the 10:30 AM showing at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood.

A brief teaser/trailer has been playing on YouTube for the past week:

Other Directors and Writers will be on hand too. Playhouse West has a long history of famous attendees that they are understandably proud of:

"This idea of an ensemble of actors who train and do plays together has grown to include film productions. In 1995, our long-time staff member, Jeff Goldblum, directed a film for Showtime, Little Surprises, which starred an ensemble of Playhouse West actors along with such notables as Rod Steiger and Julie Harris. This short film went on to garner an Academy Award nomination for Best Motion Picture Short."

Directions to the El Portal Theater can be found here

Update:

The screening was a great success with a full house enjoying the film. At the end, Writer/Director Mike Gunther and Writer/Executive Producer Mike Behrman took the stage before a highly appreciative audience to helm a question and answer panel. They fielded questions from the audience of festival goers and film makers on everything from the dramatic theme of the film, to production choices as well as difficulties encountered in trying to bring such an ambitious project to the screen.

Update:

Currently Gunther/Behrman are in negotiations with a number of stars eager to participate in the "6th And Santa Fe" theatrical feature. Names to be posted as they become available.
